Resort Joins Waldorf Astoria Collection®
Boca Raton, FL -LXR Luxury Resorts & Hotels announced that the legendary Boca
Raton Resort & Club (, originally built in 1926 by architect
Addison Mizner, concluded its $220-million renovation in 2009, once again defining the
Resort guest experience for the 21st century.
The 1,047 room Boca Raton Resort & Club completed a series of enhancements and
transformations that took place in phases and touched all areas of the property including
new public spaces, notable restaurants, and renovated and refurbished guest rooms. The
Resort's evolution coincided with plans for the Resort & Club to join the Waldorf Astoria
Collection in May 2009.
Drawing from Mizner's original philosophy and vision, an ensemble of world-renowned
designers led the efforts in creating a fresh new look and feel to the legendary Resort.
Extensive Resort renovations included public spaces by Thierry Despont, remodeled
Bunaglows by Alexandra Champalimaud, an entirely redesigned Boca Beach Club
conceptualized by Fiona Thompson and culinary additions including Morimoto, also
designed by Despont; Serendipity and the Family Room designed by Jose Gonzalez
Architects; and Cielo Restaurant, designed by Bentel & Bentel.
With the completion of the Palm Court in 2008, the Resort's highly anticipated and
renovated public area, and the redesigned lobby, French artist-architect Thierry Despont
created a casual yet elegant environment, inspired by Mizner's vision. With the modern
and contemporary feel of an Italian piazza, the Palm Court features a spectacular ceiling
made of transparent Texlon ETFE Foil, giving the illusion of a glass canopy designed to
capture an abundance of natural light. The transparent material, also used in the
construction of the 2008 Olympic Games' National Aquatic Centre in BRRC Completes Multi-Million Dollar Renovation
Beijing, possesses green ecological characteristics and is made from recyclable materials,
creates low energy consumption and recycles rain water back into Lake Boca. The Palm
Court completed Despont's profound reinterpretation of Mizner's original lobby which
runs the length of the hotel from the West Walkway east to the Resort's full-service
marina on the Intracoastal Waterway.
Masaharu Morimoto of Iron Chef fame opened the first Southeastern outpost of
Morimoto sushi bar at the Resort. The first Serendipity ice cream café outside of New
York City, known for its decadent ice cream confections and "frrrozen" drinks also
opened at the Resort. Boca Raton Resort & Club is also home to Cielo Restaurant with
its spectacular panoramic view from the top of the 27th story Tower.
The entirely redesigned 212-room Boca Beach Club, located between the Atlantic Ocean
and the Intracoastal Waterway, across from the main resort, captures the style and spirit
of South Florida, imparting a sleek new look to the property. Led by noted London-based
interior designer Fiona Thompson of Richmond International, the Beach Club's
transformation included a complete redesign of the entrance, lobby and reception area,
guestrooms, state of the art fitness center, children's activity center and seafood
restaurant, in addition to a redesigned pool area with three oceanfront swimming pools,
an oceanfront bar and upgraded cabanas. The Beach Club's enhanced facilities also
include an oceanfront ballroom and additional event and meeting space totaling 10,000
square feet. Part of the renowned Boca Raton Resort & Club, the Boca Beach Club
offers guests the unique opportunity to experience an oceanfront luxury boutique hotel
while enjoying the world-class amenities of a full-service destination resort.
Another introduction at the Boca Raton Resort & Club is the 24-hour Family Room,
located just off Serendipty and offering a multi-purpose space for relaxing and visiting
with friends and family. Accented with a dramatic indoor water fountain and floor-toceiling windows overlooking the original Cloister Garden, the space is furnished with
large, overstuffed couches and chairs, flat-screen televisions, and tables perfect for
puzzles and board games. Additionally, Interior Designer Alexandra Champalimaud
created a magnificent redesign of the Boca Bungalows.
