THE COMPANY YOU KEEP MATTERS: PALM BEACH COUNTY CVB CELEBRATES
DMAI ACCREDITATION
~ CVB Honored for Receiving Full Accreditation from Destination Marketing Association
International (DMAI) ~
PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla., July 7, 2009 - The Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau (PBC
CVB) was honored on July 7 by a proclamation from the County Board of Commissioners for receiving
full accreditation from the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP). This independent
international accreditation body is a leader in defining quality and performance issues in destination
marketing, and was developed by the Washington, DC-based Destination Marketing Association
International (DMAI).
County Commissioner Jeff Koons presented the proclamation during the Commission's morning session,
recognizing and congratulating the PBC CVB on its commitment to excellence. During the proclamation,
Koons underscored the PBC CVB's vital role in promoting tourism and its leadership in raising the level of
standards for the organization on behalf of the community and its stakeholders.
Accreditation is a rigorous process for destination management organizations, and requires compliance
with 54 mandatory and 33 voluntary DMAI standards that cover a broad range of destination
management issues including finance, technology, brand management, destination development,
stakeholder relations and market intelligence.
During a time of downturned economics, DMAI accreditation is a good example of how the PBC CVB is
looking forward and planning for future success. DMAI accreditation validates the mission of the PBC
CVB, and signals to group and meeting professionals that Palm Beach County is a destination in which
meeting professionals can place their business and event programs in trusted, professional hands.
"Being accredited confirms members of the Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau, local
government officials, visitors and business partners that their trust is well-placed," notes Michael D. Gehrish, president and CEO of DMAI. "It assures these groups that the destination's tourism business is
in good hands," Gehrish continued.
"We join an impressive list of 98 destinations worldwide that have committed themselves to standards
of excellence," said Jorge Pesquera, president and CEO of the PBC CVB. "In a market that is more
competitive than ever, it is important to assure our partners and visitors that we appreciate their
business and are employing the best industry standards to ensure that their experience with the
destination is courteous and professional. We are accountable."
