Business Intelligence Intern

This internship position is designed to provide an overview of a research/business intelligence program at a typical marketing organization and destination marketing organization (DMO). This position will develop data analysis and interpretation skills through the exposure to real world data and business cases. The candidate will be responsible for completing one or more key research projects typical of any marketing organization.
Specific market research skills that will be developed include survey writing, data collection, data analysis/interpretation, report/presentation writing, and business applications.

Potential projects involve web analytics, social media analytics, hotel, visitor and tourism industry performance trends.

Ideal candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and demonstrates an interest to learn more about market research.
Required competencies include a keen eye for identifying patterns and trends, developing and testing hypothesis with data-supported conclusions.
Requires a cognitive ability to use data and insight to provide actionable recommendations that positively impact real-life outcomes.
Candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively in both verbally and in writing.

Candidate ideally has:

  • Taken courses in covering subjects such as Marketing, Corporate Strategy, Consumer Behavior, Statistics and/or Research Methods.
  • Must have a proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ideally have previous exposure to data analysis and tools such as SPSS or SAS.

The internship program is designed to first provide expose to current research efforts at DTPB. Candidate will then have hands on exposure to the ongoing projects by assisting in the data collection, analysis, and reporting. After developing an understanding of DTPB and Business Intelligence, the candidate will be responsible for the execution of one or more research efforts. Below is an example of projects and how the program would work:

  • Development of Monthly and Weekly performance reports.
  • Ad/hoc primary research projects which include the questionnaire writing, survey programming, data analysis, report writing and presentation. Research typically includes evaluating events and obtaining feedback from industry stakeholders.
  • Hands on exposure providing support in the analysis of current ongoing research efforts of DTPB. Research includes monitoring hotel performance, visitation, economic impact, and marketing/sales program effectiveness
  • Assist in the development of a website and social media research program to identify key performance trends of DTPB online consumer platforms.
  • Help maintain the DTPB research library and assist in the development of meta-analysis platform.
