Providencia Award

The Providencia Award recognizes an individual or entity that has made an exceptional contribution to tourism, Palm Beach County's number one industry. The tourism industry in Palm Beach County employs more than 78,000 people and contributes annual revenues of more than $2.8 billion to the local economy. The Providencia Award is named for the coconut-laden Spanish brigantine that sank off the shore of Palm Beach in 1878. What was left of the ship's cargo of coconuts washed ashore and was planted by the local inhabitants inspiring the name "Palm Beach".
