Palm Beach County's Newest Artificial Reef

The Korimu

The West Palm Beach Fishing Club recently partnered with Palm Beach County's Environmental Resources Management Department to create Palm Beach County's newest reef. 
The ship named the Korimu was sunk on the outside edge of an existing artificial reef that includes nearly 7,000 tons of concrete.  This new reef will primarily serve as a fishing reef.


Resident of Canyon Lake, Texas Wins "Spring Training" Contest

Deb Hurd, PGA National Resort & Spa joins Linda Ellis of Canyon Lake, Texas and her mother Juanita Motika during their stay in Palm Beach County.  Ms. Ellis won the "Spring Training" Web Contest sponsored by the Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau.  Over 4,000 people entered the contest.  Our special thanks to Continental Airlines, Hertz, PGA National Resort & Spa and Roger Dean Stadium for their generous participation.

Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau Begins 2007-2008  Membership Drive

The Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau's membership drive for the 2007-2008 membership year will soon be under way.  Our membership year is aligned with our fiscal year - October 1st to September 30th.  Membership renewal packets are being sent out to current members with a requested return date of Friday, May 25, 2007. 


Convention Center Hotel Groundbreaking

On Tuesday, April 10, 2007 the Palm Beach County Commissioners approved the building of a Convention Center Hotel.  Ocean Properties LLP will break ground in April 2008 on a 400-room, 25-story Westin hotel adjacent to the convention center.  The convention center hotel is expected to be completed by 2010.

An employee of the CVB since 2000, Pamela Whitmore has recently transferred to the position of sales manager, northeastern U.S. territory in the Groups & Meetings Department. Pamela was sales manager at the Palm Beach County Convention Center for the past four years.

Enid Atwater, vice-president of corporate communications for the CVB joined Lou Hammond & Associates, Inc. at HSMAI's Adrian Awards Ceremony in New York City. There she accepted three awards, two gold awards for editorial features and a silver award for Value Season.  HSMAI receives more than 1,200 entries annually from all over the world.

It's a Boy

A male zebra foal was born Friday, March 2nd in the Hwange National Park preserve at Lion Country Safari.  The foal was born overnight and keepers found the new baby with its mother during opening rounds.   

Lion Country Safari is home to the largest herd of zebras in the world (beyond the wild herds in Africa). Eighty zebras roam free on over sixty acres in their habitat at Lion Country Safari's drive through preserve. This foal is the first to be raised within the herd in four years. The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts recently announced 10 new shows that will close out the 2006-2007 season and usher in the new 2007-2008 season. The Palm Beach County Attractions Association recently gathered at the Palm Beach County Convention Center for their monthly meeting.  Palm Beach County Convention and Visitors Bureau co-hosted the meeting. Enid Atwater, the CVB's Vice-President of Corporate Communications addressed the group; sharing upcoming summer promotions in Palm Beach County.  WXEL Radio Host and Producer of the popular program "Arts & Attractions Alive" Caroline Breder-Watts presented promotional opportunities for arts and attractions groups at WXEL-FM. Good News from Palm Beach International Airport

Director of Airport Marketing, Dick Haller reported for the current month of April PBIA has 241 daily flights versus 216 in April of 2006, an 11.6% increase, and a 4.8% increase in available seats for the month. This is the highest number of daily flights ever for the month of April.
