National Travel & Tourism Week

The Palm Beaches joined in the annually recognized National Travel & Tourism Week (NTTW) with a successful Travel Rally Day celebration at the Historical Society of Palm Beach County. NTTW is a great opportunity to emphasize and promote a wider understanding of the importance of travel. Tourism is the world's largest industry. In 2013, Palm Beach County reached an all-time high of 6 million visitors. With a $6.8 billion a year economic impact and nearly 60,000 jobs, tourism represents Palm Beach County's #1 industry. Shining Star CEO of the Year - Jorge Pesquera

Jorge Pesquera, President and CEO of Discover Palm Beach County, has been selected as the Shining Star CEO of the Year by the Puerto Rican Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for Palm Beach County. Jorge wil be recognized at The Shining Star Awards ceremony on June 10th. The event will pay tribute to those who exhibit strength and community values in their everyday lives. The Shining Star Awards are a combined effort of Puerto Rican Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies. Site Up-and-Running

Discover Palm Beach County's official summer campaign has gone live with the destination's annual vacation savings site, Now in its third year, the site is organized into a variety of popular vacation experiences, including Affordable Luxury, Family Fun, Florida Residents and Drive & Dine. The site also includes two new travel categories - Spa Palm Beach and 2-for-1 Deals - adding vacation getaway options at some of the top spa resorts and "coolest" attractions around. Most offers are valid through September.

Grand Opening of Waterstone Resort & Marina in Boca Raton

The Waterstone Resort & Marina, formerly the Boca Raton Bridge Hotel, is officially open to the public. The Circle at The Breakers Earns a Spot in '100 Best Restaurants for Brunch in America'

The Sunday Brunch served at The Circle at The Breakers Palm Beach has been recognized by OpenTable with the 2014 Diners' Choice Award as one of the Top 100 Best Restaurants for Brunch in America. This marks the second consecutive year that The Circle has been recognized as one of OpenTable's best.


Top Family Attraction - Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society

The Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society has been named the top family attraction in Florida worth traveling to this summer in TripAdvisor’s FlipKey Blog. The blog post, part of a “50 States Series,” lists the Zoo as one of 50 vacation destinations, one for each state. The vacation destinations listed in this blog were chosen through industry research and traveler feedback.


Palm Beach County Continues Growth in April

Palm Beach County currently ranks 4th in the state in Average Daily Rate (ADR) growth compared to April 2013.

  • Occupancy was 75.9%, up 1.8% from 2013, positive for 50 out of the last 53 months
  • Average Daily Rate (ADR) was $183, up 14.1% over 2013, positive for 44 of the last 47 months
  • Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) was $139, up 16.2% over 2013; positive for 51 consecutive months

DC Sales Mission – Washington, DC

Associate VP of Convention Sales for the Mid-Atlantic, Donna Del Gallo partnered with five Palm Beach County hotels and conducted an impressive schedule of sales calls to clients in Washington DC, including a lunch reception with SmithBucklin. This mission produced 105 contacts.

Atlanta Sales Mission – Atlanta, GA

Associate Vice President of Group and Meeting Sales, Steve Crist conducted a sales mission to meet with key Atlanta meeting planners. DPBC partnered with Visit Florida for a one-day “Very Important Planner” educational session and networking event. This mission brought 38 contacts.

Director of Sales for North America, Eda Ruddock and Director of International Sales, Rodrigo Trujillo along with three Palm Beach County hotels hosted 25 Receptive Tour Operators and Travel Agents for a cocktail reception, dinner and presentation.

Luxury Meeting Summits – Milwaukee, WI & Chicago, IL

Director of Sales for the Midwest, Nalini Dube'-Borzym attended these two one-day-appointment formatted events, which provided the opportunity for qualified meeting planners to meet one-on-one with luxury properties and destinations. These Summits produced 87 contacts.

National Association of Wedding Professionals – Palm Beach County

Tracy Shaw, Director of Catering of The Seagate Hotel & Spa joined Director of Sales for North America, Eda Ruddock, Director of Partnership Marketing, Nancy Spoto and Senior VP of Global Sales, Doug McLain as DPBC co-hosted the monthly Palm Beach Chapter meeting of NAWP, National Association of Wedding Professionals. Eighty wedding planners and professionals enjoyed a great presentation on Wedding Partner Benefits and how DPBC targets the weddings market.

Meeting Spots – Tallahassee, FL

Associate Vice President of Group and Meeting Sales, Steve Crist and four Palm Beach County hotels attended this trade show, which included one-on-one appointments with qualified planners and a trade show showcase. This show produced 18 contacts.

Chicago-Based TV Shows Hit the Streets (and the beach, golf course, polo fields and more) in The Palm Beaches

DPBC welcomed two TV crews in from Chicago for four days of filming. “Family Travel with Colleen Kelly” and “24/7” captured family attractions, eco-tourism, surfing, shopping, golf, spa and polo – to share with potential Chicago travelers. The program airs on American Public Television affiliates in 161 domestic U.S. markets, including Chicago, NY, LA, Dallas, Philadelphia, Boston, D.C., and Houston.

The show is going international! DPBC confirmed a 30-minute episode to feature The Palm Beaches. In addition, the host of the Emmy Award-winning program, “24/7,” filmed five travel segments, which will air throughout the next year – on five separate episodes – highlighting our destination’s shopping, golf, nightlife, beach and polo. “24/7” airs on NBC 5 in Chicago on Saturday nights, and ranks #1 in its timeslot.
