Convention Center Hilton Hotel Groundbreaking Set for Dec. 6

Construction of the highly anticipated Palm Beach County Convention Center Hilton Hotel will officially commence following a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, December 6th. The 403-room Hilton Hotel is expected to significantly expand larger convention and event business within the county. A single three-day convention with 1,000 delegates has the opportunity to generate $42,000 in local taxes, support 400 jobs and contribute more than $1 million in total economic impact.


Palm Beach County Officially Connects with the West Coast

Palm Beach International Airport launched its first-ever non-stop flight from Los Angeles via American Airlines, giving The Palm Beaches direct access to the west coast of the U.S. Inbound travelers from LA were greeted with DPBC goody bags. They were welcomed by a “Beach Boys” cover band, an American Airlines cake and press from around the Tri-County area.

November proved to be a busy month at PBIA as new flights also opened to and from Orlando (Silver Airways), LaGuardia (American Airlines), Nassau (BahamasAir), Freeport (Silver Airways) and North Eleuthera (Silver Airways).

HSMAI Adrian Awards Winner

Discover Palm Beach County is proud to announce its receipt of the 2013 HSMAI Adrian Awards, which honor outstanding achievements in advertising, public relations and digital marketing in the travel industry. Out of 1,200 entries, the Rock the Vote in The Palm Beaches and Boca Raton campaign earned Silver and the Integrated Marketing Campaign for Consumers campaign earned Bronze. DPBC will be recognized at the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International’s Adrian Awards Gala in February 2014.


No. 4 National Shopping Destination

Palm Beach was selected in a Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards as the No. 4 best city for shopping in the United States. After nearly 80,000 consumers put their votes in, Palm Beach made it near the top ahead of major U.S. destination such as Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Boston. Check it out here.

Travel PR and Marketing agency AVIACIRCLE, the Brazilian agency of record for Discover Palm Beach County, received the prestigious ‘Travel Agents Choice’ award for Best PR and Representation Company 2013. The SpringHill Suites by Marriott Boca Raton hotel hosted a “Grand Re-Opening Event” to mark the completion of its recent six-month, $2.3 million upgrade of its guest rooms and public space. Palm Beach County Outranks the State in Occupancy Growth and Rooms Sold

Palm Beach County currently ranks 1st in Florida in occupancy growth and rooms sold growth in Calendar Year 2013 (YTD).
  • Occupancy was 68.1%, up 8.6% from 2012, positive for 44 out of the last 47 months
  • Average Daily Rate (ADR) was $121, up 1.8% over 2012, positive for 38 out of the last 41 months
  • Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) was $82, up 10.6% over 2012; positive for 45 consecutive months

Tourism Business Intelligence Research Available
DPBC’s Hotel Performance Dashboard is a report of the latest industry performance measures for Palm Beach County, gathered through various sources including Smith Travel Research (STR). The data is compiled and analyzed into business intelligence to enable DPBC and tourism partners to make smart business decisions. Access the monthly dashboard here.


Key Highlights in October:

  • Generated a total of 65 leads representing 28,785 tentative room nights
  • Booked 32 groups with 8,875 definite room nights for October representing $3.5 million in future direct spending
  • Held 19 events/meetings in the county, producing 12,245 definite room nights and approximately $4.2 million in direct spending

Associate Vice President of Group and Meeting Sales, Steve Crist attended this event which attracted over 200 association executives and garnered 14 new contacts for DPBC.

Salon International Tourisme Voyages (SITV) Tradeshow – Montreal, QU

Director of Sales for North America, Eda Ruddock attended this highly regarded industry event where 10 new leads and 100 new contacts, resulted from the show.

Incentive Meetings Exchange (IMEX) – Las Vegas, NV

Senior Director of Sales for the Affinity Markets, Connie Hunter and Director of Sales for the Midwest, Nalini Dube-Borzym attended this elite event which garnered 19 prospects and 68 new contacts for DPBC.

La Cita Tradeshow – Fort Lauderdale, FL

Blogger FAM Tour at Boca Raton Resort & Club

DPBC assisted the Boca Raton Resort & Club to host a small group of travel writers and bloggers for a Tweet-Up FAM trip. The purpose of the Tweet-Up FAM was to promote the resort’s exciting new pink ice skating rink and its popular surf school. DPBC, with assistance from Downtown Boca, assisted with blogger itineraries, social media efforts and provided welcome bags for each guest.
