Strong Summer - Setting Records for Florida And The Palm Beaches

According to STR, there were 483,210 nightly bookings in The Palm Beaches for June with more than half of the rooms being occupied by out-of-town visitors. As a result, the ADR was $121.49 which is up 4.9 percent from June 2014. Florida welcomed the highest amount of visitors of any six months in the state’s history according to VISIT FLORIDA. Gov. Rick Scott said in a press release. “Our growing tourism industry employs over 1.2 million Floridians and is helping us meet our goal of becoming the best place in the world for jobs.” Preliminary figures for the first half of 2015 show 45.7 million domestic visitors, 5.5 million overseas visitors and 2.9 million Canadians have come to the Sunshine State, representing increases of 6.7 percent, 1.7 percent and 1.1 percent respectively.

Palm Beach County currently ranks 2nd in the state in ADR Growth and 6th in the state in RevPAR Growth compared to July 2014.

  • Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) was $84, up 8.9% over 2014; positive for 66 consecutive months
  • Average Daily Rate (ADR) was $122, up 8.5% over 2014, positive for 26 consecutive months
  • Occupancy was 68.6%, up 0.4% from 2014, due to significant room inventory growth

Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) - Atlanta, GA

Discover's Doug McLain presented a Destination Message and New Hilton Hotel construction time lapse video to 90 members of PCMA Southeast Chapter at a luncheon held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Downtown Atlanta. Doug was joined by Gilbert Rivera of PGA National Resort and Spa at the event. There was a pre-lunch table top display reception where attendees were able to take destination and meeting hotel brochures.

MPI World Education Congress - San Francisco, CA

The World Education Congress is a 4-day signature event in which MPI delivers top-notch education, networking and business opportunities to meeting professionals. The event provides a hosted buyer program, allowing DTPB to meet face-to-face with highly qualified meeting planners. Nalini Dube’-Borzym, Discover’s Director of Sales for the Midwest, held 9 quality hosted buyer appointments and in all generated 68 new accounts.

ASAE Annual Convention - Detroit, MI

ASAE is a membership organization made up of more than 21,000 association executives and industry partners, representing over 10,000 organizations. Nearly 5,500 of those gathered in Detroit in the second week of August to attend the ASAE annual convention made up of nearly 1,000 executive directors, CFOs, executive VPs and meeting planners. The Palm Beaches were represented at this year’s 3-day show by Dori Jensen and Doug McLain of DTPB, PGA National, Hilton West Palm Beach and the Boca Raton Resort.

LAN Colombia Destination Review - The Palm Beaches, FL

12 top tour operators and guests of LAN Colombia, came to experience The Palm Beaches for a 4-day Destination Review in August. They were educated about all our premier destination has to offer. During their stay the clients were able to experience several spectacular venues including 7 hotels/resorts and various shopping malls, restaurants, and attractions.

New Manager - Public Relations & Communications

Angela Cruz Ledford has joined the DTPB Public Relations team. In her new role, she will be responsible for managing regional and state-wide publicity opportunities to cultivate positive coverage of the destination and support the marketing department's efforts to garner increased tourism visitation into the county. Ledford brings more than a decade of communications experience, an insider's perspective of South Florida news markets and a passion for DTPB's mission. Most recently, she worked as the Media Relations Manager for the Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society, and she currently volunteers as the Public Relations Director for the Philippine American Society of Palm Beach County.

This month The Public Relations Department hosted two Digital Influencer FAMs in efforts to target the GenX and Millennial Florida drive-markets. Each group consisted of three media representatives with strong influencer presence on social media. The Public Relations team also hosted DROPs Magazine, Mami Innovative Media and Ocean Home Magazine.
