November Guest Service Tip: Identify and Anticipate Needs

Guests don't buy products or services. They buy good feelings and solutions to problems. Most customer needs are emotional rather than logical. The more you know your guests, the better you become at anticipating their needs. Be alert and aware of your guests. If you see a family with a baby during check in, offer a travel crib to be delivered to their room. Being thoughtful and proactive on your part can leave a good impression with your guests. Always communicate regularly so that you are aware of problems or upcoming needs. As the IR Account Specialist, Alyssa will be helping the IR Team in the recruitment of new Partners and supporting DTPB's Community engagement strategy. Alyssa was most recently with WPBF25NEWS as an Assistant Producer where she assisted in the evaluation, planning and coordination of news stories with the entire team. Prior to that, she held a number of human resources support positions with companies based out of Ontario, Canada. Alyssa has a Master of Science in Communications and Media from Lynn University, a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Northwood University and an Advanced Diploma of Business Administration in Marketing/Event Management from Seneca College in Markham, Ontario.   • In London, DTPB will be activating in the Covent Garden area, located in Central London over two days. Over 125,000 people pass through the area every day, and DTPB will be making noise to attract, engage and make an impression on each of them.

The Breakers named 2015 Go Blue Business of the Year

This award recognizes excellence in conservation and environmental stewardship. Breakers President, Paul Leone said the hotel is honored by the designation. “We believe that sustainability is one of the greatest issues of our time and we continually set the bar higher to ensure we are protecting and preserving our natural resources,” Leone said. The measures have the “enduring support” of the Kenan family, which owns the hotel, he wrote.

Manatee Lagoon Taking Shape

During cold snaps, manatees have long gathered where warm water flows from the Riviera Beach FPL plant into the Intracoastal Waterway. The new manatee center will give visitors a chance to watch the endangered creatures. Set to open this February, the free, two-story center will feature hands-on exhibits, skeletons of adult and juvenile manatees and displays on the other creatures that live in the Lake Worth Lagoon. Once open there will still be several weeks to see manatees before most head north for the summer. Manatee Lagoon will include a gift store, café and picnic area and will be open Tuesday through Sunday. Learn more about the Manatee Lagoon.

Palm Beach County Hits 69 Consecutive Months of RevPAR Growth

Palm Beach County currently ranks 3rd in the state for ADR Growth and 3rd in the state in Growth in Rooms Available compared to compared to January - October 2014.

  • Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) was $92, up 6.6% over 2014; positive for 69 consecutive months
  • Average Daily Rate (ADR) was $132, up 5.6% over 2014, positive for 29 consecutive months
  • Occupancy was 69.2%, up 0.9%, positive 60 out of the last 71 months.

The PBC Tourism Dashboard - Q3-2015 is now available for the third quarter of 2015. This report has the latest tourism performance measures (visitation, spending & room nights sold) for Palm Beach County. Visitation increased by 11% to 1.47 million. This year, we have seen a total of 5.2 million visitors and are now on track for 6.8 million for the calendar year. Target marketing for both Summer and Winter showed strong results. Philadelphia Sales Mission - Philadelphia, PA

Susan Carlson, Director of Meeting and Convention Sales, Northeast and Canada, hosted Discover's 3-day Philadelphia Sales Mission. Highlights of the event included luncheon at Davios with 45 key meeting planners, a Wells Fargo Client event & hockey game attended by 12 planners, and a Maritz Travel presentation for 22 planners. One of the attendees stated, "It was great seeing some old faces and some new ones as well. You always do such a great job bringing everyone together. We really look forward to this event every year."

Rejuvenate Marketplace - Dallas, TX

Connie Hunter, Senior Director, Meeting and Convention Sales- Affinity Markets attended this year's Rejuvenate Marketplace in Dallas, Texas. The annual appointment-only trade show and education conference is a highly attended event that brings together the most active planners, suppliers and experts in faith-based meetings and events for three days of general sessions, boot camps, roundtables, workshops, pre-set appointments and networking.

Luxury Meetings Showcase - Raleigh and Charlotte, NC

Dori Jensen, Senior Director Meeting and Convention Sales, Mid-Atlantic attended Luxury Meetings Showcase in both Raleigh and Charlotte, NC where she had the opportunity to meet and present to over 35 meeting professionals in each of these regions. Each event ends with a sit-down lunch where each sponsoring destination provides a giveaway. Luxury Meetings Showcase is an innovative event that provides qualified meeting planners with the opportunity to meet face-to-face with luxury properties and destinations in a highly social and fast-paced atmosphere. Excellent Turnout At NY Media Event

New York City was abuzz with the holidays approaching and because The Palm Beaches staged an outstanding media event along with industry partners. Media representatives were able to connect with The Palm Beaches team in a leisurely tropical setting and enjoyed Chef Clay Conley's cooking demo. The team collaborated with 12 industry partners to host a New York Media Reception, in which 54 media representatives attended including journalists from NBC's TODAY Show, NY Post, Huffington Post, Yahoo! Travel, The Daily Meal, Successful Meetings magazine and more.

PR Team Travels Northeast To Promote The Palm Beaches 

The team participated in two desk-side media missions, where they aimed to inspire travel editors, journalists and influencers to publish and/or broadcast the destination's exciting offerings to their respective audiences. The New York Media Mission portion consisted of 8 one-on-one appointments with key influencers, editors and contributors for Wine Spectator, Rachel Ray Everyday, Epoch Taste, Travel & Leisure, and Conde Nast Traveler, among many others. In Boston, the team met with 6 other media representatives and contributors for the Boston Globe, JustLuxe.com, Forbes Travel Guide, Sherman's Travel, AAA Horizons, Smarter Travel.com, Improper Bostonian, along with several others.
