Loxahatchee River

Jupiter, Tequesta
Website
It was the first. Before any other river in Florida, the Loxahatchee River was federally designated as a Wild and Scenic River in 1985. It meanders through freshwater creeks, down into a brackish estuary, and finally empties through the Jupiter Inlet into the Atlantic Ocean. Look for American alligators, West Indian manatees, turtles, an excellent variety of birds, otters, deer, and if you’re really, really lucky, a Florida panther. Explore the river on your own or go on a guided tour.
