Pahokee, Florida: Adventure off the beaten path
Pahokee, Florida, means "Grassy Waters" in Seminole. Pahokee, the only town located directly on the shore of big Lake Okeechobee, is known as Palm Beach County's "Other" Coast; the one without the crowds and sticky sand.
Seven miles of majestic towering Royal Palm trees greet visitors driving into Pahokee. The tropical climate, moderating balmy breeze from Lake Okeechobee and nature's richest organic soil, called "muck" makes the town a natural home for the Royal Palms.
One of several towns along Lake Okeechobee, Pahokee is still considered off the beaten path. While the rest of Florida has boomed, Pahokee has remained small, quaint, and rural. More and more folks come out just for that reason.
Lake Okeechobee attracts boating and recreation enthusiasts and eco-adventurers. The shallow, freshwater lake is world famous for its' largemouth bass fishing. Airboat tours offer the chance to see alligators, birds and endangered species in their natural habitat.
The Pahokee Marina / Lake Okeechobee KOA campground offers world-class RV camping destinations with unobstructed lake views. All sites are located along the shores of Lake Okeechobee, providing unmatched access to the lake and its and storybook sunsets.
The Pahokee Airport features operators who provide helicopter tours of the surrounding region. It’s an exciting and unique way to experience the beauty of Palm Beach County.
