Briny Breezes
The town of Briny Breezes is located in Palm Beach County, Florida. During the 200 census, this small coastal community had a total population of 411.
In the 1920s, a Michigan lumberman named Ward Miller owned the land (affectionately known as "Briny" to locals), and implemented a strawberry farm. During the Great Depression, Mr. Miller permitted tourists to bring trailers down from the North, and camp on his land for "$3 a week rent." In 1958, Miller decided to retire and offered to sell his land to the campers. The campers combined their assets and the town was born. The town was established on March 19, 1963, and was complete with its own mayor and post office. Today Briny Breezes consists of approximately 488 mobile homes along Florida State Road A1A.
In the fall of 2005, developer Jean Francois Roy, of Ocean Land Investments, presented a $500 million offer to purchase Briny Breezes. This deal would price each residential lot at slightly more than $1 million. Ultimately, the Ocean Land deal fell through and did not see fruition. - Information courtesy of wikimapia.org
