Cloud Lake
Located in central Palm Beach County, the Town of Cloud Lake is a small, rural, residential community. The town consists of a Mayor and Council form of government and currently does not levy a municipal ad valorem tax.
In 1935, Cloud Lake was developed by the late Kenyan and Karl Riddle of West Palm Beach. The home construction in Cloud Lake makes it one of the first west suburban developments in Florida. In 1940, Kenyan Riddle chose to set aside five acres of dirt for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad overpass, currently the Southern Boulevard overpass over I-95. This five acre plot was named Cloud Lake by Mr. Riddle in honor of a Seminole Indian Warrior, the Cloud, from the mid 1800's. When the Town was established in 1948, the residents chose the name, Cloud Lake, for the town as well.
The Town of Cloud Lake is 36 acres in size. In addition to Cloud Lake, another lake called Gem Lake is also located in the center of town and is shared with the Town of Glen Ridge. Cloud Lake is land-locked and cannot expand beyond its current limits. Glen Ridge surrounds Cloud Lake to the west and south, while the City of Palm Beach is located to the east. Southern Boulevard (SR80) and Palm Beach International Airport are adjacent to the north. With the widening of Southern Boulevard, over 50% of commercial properties in Cloud Lake were removed, and only two undeveloped properties remained. - Information courtesy of Dorothy C.
