Cloud Lake, Florida: Freshwater Fun

Cloud Lake, FloridaCloud Lake is named for Yaholoochee or "Cloud", a famous war chief of the Seminole Indians during the Second Seminole War of the 1840s. On hundred years later, in the 1940s when Kenyon Riddle developed a sub-division here, he excavated about five acres and named the resultant lake, Cloud Lake, after the Seminole warrior. Several years later, the people of the platted area decided to incorporate and the name was used for the new town.

Adjacent to Cloud Lake on Oglethorpe Road is Stub Canal Park. Operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department, the park is a great place for those wanting to launch a boat for an afternoon of waterskiing or a just spend a lazy day enjoying freshwater fishing. Use of the launch and slip facilities are open from sunrise to sunset and free to the public.
